Legal Downloads at UC Berkeley

Our Goal

In an effort to provide legal downloading alternatives for students, UC Berkeley has negotiated favorable deals with two music services: iTunes and Ruckus. Each service has unique features and offers more than one million songs and helps support the university.

iTunes

Support UC Berkeley Students by purchasing downloads from the itunes.berkeley.edu website. A 5% commission on all qualifying revenue will go towards the Berkeley Incentive Awards Program.

Details:

  • $0.99 per downloaded song
  • Select song downloads donate 5% commission to UC Berkeley's Incentive Awards Program
  • Create playlists
  • Requires the iTunes client
  • Requires an active iTunes account
  • Syncs with iPods
  • Works on both Macs and PCs

Ruckus

UC Berkeley Students can sign up for Ruckus for FREE by using their berkeley.edu email address. Please sign up at the Ruckus website.

Details:

  • Free music streaming
  • $0.79 - $0.99 to permanently downloaded/burn or purchase song per track
  • Ruckus to Go $20.00/term (Fall, Spring, Summer)
  • Savings for Faculty, Staff and Alumni
  • Requires the Ruckus client
  • Syncs with certain portable audio players
  • Works only on PCs
